- Meriden Homestead II, LLC illegally encroached onto Lamentation Mountain State Park by constructing structures and a driveway on park land.
- Sale of the 2.7-acres would cut off road and trail access to the park from the Berlin Turnpike.
- If Meriden Homestead II, LLC purchased this land, they would have avoided the legal consequences for encroaching on and using state owned land.
- The proposed 2.7-acre acquisition had not been properly appraised, and the actual value of the land had not been determined.
If this sale of this land had been granted by the state legislature, the encroaching individuals would have been rewarded for their illegal encroachment. It made absolutely no sense to set this precedent.
